The Center for Political Studies at the University of Indonesia (Puskapol UI), in collaboration with the Institute for Democracy and Human Rights Studies (Demos), has completed a module on programmatic transactions aimed at strengthening citizens’ interests during and after elections. Through our research and analysis, we recognize that political transactions in elections are unavoidable. The module introduces a new model of political transactions that is programmatic in nature and empowers citizens, offering an alternative to older models that tend to weaken them.
As a follow up to this work, we will conduct a voter education program focused on political transactions in elections. This initiative will take place simultaneously in four regions, Kupang, Malang, Samarinda, and Makassar, running from February to August 2014. The program includes a series of activities such as facilitator training in Jakarta, training sessions with community based organizations, surveys to identify citizens’ needs, meetings between citizens and candidates, and post election monitoring.
