This book examines how the practice of contract work and outsourcing systems has a significant influence on the current political trends of Indonesian labor. This research also discusses how the labor movement conducts politics in response to the practice of contract work and outsourcing systems, including in the local/regional political space that has become significant due to the implementation of decentralization since the end of the authoritarian regime of Soeharto’s New Order. Decentralization that occurred simultaneously with the increase in the number and actions of labor unions after the end of the authoritarian regime of Soeharto’s New Order in 1998 also became a determinant of labor union politics at the local/regional level. At the local/regional level, alliances built by the labor union movement tend to be more open and do not always work with alliances built by labor unions at the national level. This then influences the progress of the labor movement’s actions at the local/regional level in resisting the contract work and outsourcing systems.
