Shifting Attitudes Towards Rohingya Refugees in Indonesia and Malaysia\u201d<\/strong> is a research-based article that examines the drastic shift in public attitudes in Indonesia and Malaysia toward Rohingya refugees, particularly since the surge in arrivals at the end of 2023. This article explores the factors behind the decline in sympathy, ranging from solidarity fatigue and economic pressure to the spread of disinformation on social media that has fueled hateful sentiments. Field studies were conducted in Aceh, the primary region receiving Rohingya refugees, as well as through interviews with academics and the Rohingya refugees themselves.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This article was written by <strong>Hurriyah<\/strong>, an Indonesian academic whose research focuses on religion and politics, religious freedom, human rights, and gender and political issues. She is an <strong>Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science and Director of the Center for Political Studies (Puskapol) at the University of Indonesia<\/strong>, as well as the <strong>Chair of the Indonesian Scholar Network on Religious and Belief Freedom (ISFORB)<\/strong> and a <strong>Senior Research Fellow at the Asia Research Centre, University of Indonesia<\/strong>. Since 2019, Hurriyah has conducted in-depth research on the politics of religious freedom in Indonesia, focusing on minority and vulnerable groups.
