The Civil Society Coalition for the Codification of the Election Bill has issued a statement regarding the importance of reforming the electoral system and political parties to strengthen the quality of democracy in Indonesia. The press release, issued on September 15, 2025, highlights the need to improve election governance and the internal democratization of political parties in response to various issues concerning political representation that emerged following the 2024 elections.
This media release addresses several urgent reform agendas, including accelerating the revision of the Election Law, implementing all Constitutional Court rulings regarding elections, adopting a more representative electoral system design, strengthening internal political party democracy, increasing public participation, and reforming the institutions responsible for election administration and enforcement. Additionally, the Coalition advocates for enhanced transparency in political financing, increased women’s representation, and the use of technology to support the conduct of more accountable and efficient elections.
Through this statement, the Civil Society Coalition for the Codification of the Election Bill calls upon the House of Representatives (DPR), the Government, political parties, and all segments of society to jointly oversee the agenda for electoral and political party reform, ensuring it is realized through a legislative process that is transparent, participatory, and oriented toward strengthening democracy and popular sovereignty.
